Description

Attractive original antique map of the Bay of Palma in Mallorca. This map was published in the first half of the eighteenth century as part of Jacques Ayrouard's Recueil de Plusiers Plans des Ports et Rades et de Quelques Cartes Particulieres de la Mer Mediterranee, a pilot's guide to the Mediterranean and other coastal waters.

The map is simply and attractively laid out, showing some inland topography and forests, the layout of the city of Palma, and numerous depth soundings. The map includes a compass rose and rhumb lines.

An inset map shows the port of Palma, with additional depth soundings and further detail including the viceroy's palace. A note states that the port holds five galleys in four mooring locations near the citadel.
