Description

Locating the Cullinan Diamond -- Largest in the World

Striking pictorial map of South Africa, published by the South African Railway in Pretoria in 1954.

Based upon trigonometric surveys of the South African Railways in 1947 and 1953, this marvelous railway map provides both a fine schematic illustration of the railroads of South Africa, as well as marvelous pictorial imagery.

The images show indigenous animals, domesticated animals, villages, and indigenous peoples, with vignettes noting important commercial regions, mines, quarries, hot springs, etc.

In the corners, symbols for Transvaal, Orange Free State, Natal and Cape of Good Hope are shown.
