Description

Fine example of this scarce map illustrating the Great Fire of Pera (Beyoğlu, Istanbul), in June 1870.

The black area indicates the area destroyed by fire in the heart of the European section of Istanbul, which is now known as Beyoğlu.

In addition to the printed key, the home of the French Embassy and three homes are noted.

Shows the Mosque of Agha Djami, Church of the Armenian-Catholic Archdiocese, Church of St Chrysostom and the Naum Theater. The Legation of Italy, Consulate of Portugal, Guardhouse of Galata Sera,  Consulate of America, and Embassy of France are also shown.
