Description

Scarce map of Catalonia, stretching from Tortosa to Perpignan. The map shows the region in great detail, naming hundreds of cities and towns and showing relief, forests, and other features pictorially.

This map was published during or immediately prior to the War of the Spanish Succession, during which Catalonia was fiercely contested. Barcelona was invaded numerous times, and Archduke Charles, who had strong family ties to the region, claimed that "on my death, one shall find the name Barcelona engraved into my heart."
