Description

Extremely rare map of Europe by Johannes A. Montecalerio, published in Chorographica Descriptio Provinciaru & Conventum… in Milan, 1712. The map is noteworthy for its striking appearance and primitive decorations, including sailing ships, compass rose, and interesting little vignettes showing nomadic tribes in Central Asia. The engraving style is bold and unique, not at all similar to contemporary cartographers. A few repaired tears and reinforced folds, but overall a nice example of a map by a map maker who has never appeared in Jolly and for whom Bagrow makes no reference and Tooley offers virtually no information.
