Description

Antique map of Canada from the Scottish publishing house of Blackie & Son. Three capital cities are shown, marked with bulleted circles and their names in uppercase letters: Toronto, Quebec City, and Montreal.

Far northern Canada still lacks accuracy, as Frobisher Bay is here Frobisher Strait, a waterway bisecting Baffin Island, making Meta Incognita Peninsula and island, and leading into Hudson Bay. Roes Welcome Sound does, accurately, connect Prince Regent's Inlet and Hudson's Bay, although this was a difficult and at the time unfinished journey. Victoria Island, in present-day Nunavut, is incomplete, missing Storkerson Peninsula and Steffanson Island to its north; neither would be sighted until the early 20th century.

Benicia, briefly the capital of California from 1853 to 1854, is titled in all uppercase letters.
