Description
Interesting double hemisphere map of the world from Mentelle's L'Atlas Nouveau, published in Paris in 1779.
The map is a very unique physical map of the earth, showing several extensive offshore mountain ranges, entitled Des Alpes Septentrionales and Des Alpes Meridionales in the Pacific Ocean and Suite Des Alpes in the Atlantic and again in the Indian Ocean. Other noteworthy features include an excellent example of the Bay of the West and Northwest passage and incomplete examples of New Zealand and Australia. Includes observations regarding Volcanoes throughout the world and elevations above sea level.
A interesting map, engraved by Tardieu, one of his earlier works.
