Description

The Gulf Stream in Reverse?

Scarce map of Cuba, the Bahamas, the southern tip of Florida and contiguous islands, highlighting the various trade routes in the Caribbean.

"The Course of the Current Through The Gulf of Florida" is prominently labeled, as is the Track of the Galleons from Cartagena to Havana. Oddly, the current shown appears to flow in the opposite direction of the Gulf Stream, which Benjamin Franklin would begin to explore in the late 1760s.

The map also shows two Tropics of Cancer, a Spanish line and an English Line.

Large inset map of Havana, plus a compass rose and many sailing ship.
