Description

Very attractive original antique copperplate engraving showing Rome from outside its city walls. This view was produced by Pierre Aveline, one of the best European engravers for city views from the 18th century.

The view is attractively engraved, showing all the highlights of the city. St. Pierre's Cathedral rises above the rest of the city, and many other churches and castles are shown. Outside the walls of the city, the countryside extends away, with merchants and noblemen going to the city.
