Description

Nice example of this mid-19th Century map showing the earliest known land grants in Lower Manhattan.

The map purports to show "the first conception of property in the Toune of Manhattan, or New Amsterdam," with street names, plat owners, and some updating of names of streets. Of historical note is the home of Augustyn Heermans, shown in the lower left corner, who would go on to create one of the most important 17th Century Colonial of Virginia & Maryland in 1673 memory.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/h
