Founded in 1891 by John and Martin Bekins, Bekins is the oldest still-operating household moving company in the United States. The company's innovations include containerized storage and their early use of motor trucks, operating 2 out of only 700 in the country in 1903. With the rise of Hollywood, Bekins offered its logistics for distributing reels and transporting goods to on-location shoots. In 1971, the company became front-page news when FBI agents seized Daniel Ellsberg's possessions from his Bekins Beverly Hills storage unit at 215 S. Canon Drive (here at 10D) after he leaked the Pentagon Papers.
