Description

Attractive vintage map of San Diego, produced as part of a tourist postcard meant to be sent to acquaintances.

The map shows San Diego County from the Mexican border to San Juan Capistrano and inland to El Centro. Surrounding the map are numerous views in and around San Diego, including of the border, the Mission, and Balboa Park.

The map is accompanied by a letter, which starts off:

Dear ____,

I am writing this in the southernmost portion of Paradise (I mean California). . .

It continues on to describe the weather, zoo, parks, history, and more of San Diego. Curious tidbits of information are provided, for example, describing how the city and region forms the stage of the then famous Helen Hunt Jackson novel Ramona, which would later lend its name to an East County town.

This is the first time we have offered this item for sale.
