The map shows the divisions of Western Australia. Railroads are shown. Towns and cities are indicated. Explorations to the interior of the continent are indicated.

Harry Johnston was one of the most important surveyors of Western Australia, who served as Surveyor-General between 1896 and 1915. He was most famous for leading a surveying expedition to the Kimberley region, during which an attached geologist discovered gold.
