Description
Handsome, scarce map of New England and New York State issued by J. Calvin Smith in New York City in 1858.
The map is greatly enriched with the inclusion of five large inset views, labeled: "Niagara from the foot of the American Fall", "The Notch White Mountains", "Falls of Montmorenci", "View from Mount Holyoke Mass.", and an untitled maritime view of a steamship and several sailing vessels.
There are inset maps of 15 miles around Boston and 15 miles around New York.
Condition Description
Original hand-color in outline. Minor separation at folds, most notably in Maine. Original cloth gilt-lettered cloth covers.
