Description

Early piece of Colorado Springs ephemera. This is a tourist brochure that includes a map of the still-developing Colorado Springs and its surrounding attractions, including Pike's Peak and the Garden of the Gods.

In addition to the map, the brochure includes additional descriptions as to railroad connections to the city and the area's hotels. Much is made of the fact that the Garden of the Gods is a free public park.

While Colorado Springs initially developed as a center for mining in the late 18th century, it was not long before the city realized its potential as a tourist attraction. Its location at the edge of the Rocky Mountains, with easy access to some of the state's most famous peaks, allowed it to grow in this capacity throughout the 20th century.
