Very Early Promotional Pamphlet for the Monterey Peninsula.

Fantastic 1889 promotional pamphlet for Monterey Peninsula, then undergoing a boom in tourism thanks to the recent completion of the Hotel Del Monte. The pamphlet includes several maps, namely Map of Pacific Grove Retreat Monterey Cal., and Guide to Monterey and Vicinity (a small map, but in many ways the most interesting), and View of Pacific Grove and Vicinity.

The Guide Map identifies the Hotel del Monte, signaling the region's transformation into a resort destination. It also delineates the El Pescadero Rancho. The map features scattered cabins and other small structures, indicating the beginnings of residential development in the area. The map points out the "Carmelo Mission", an important historical and cultural site. A very small "Pebble Beach" gets a mention, alongside Chinese Cove, and Pescadero Beach.

'Views of Pacific Grove and Vicinity', includes scenes such as 'On the Cypress Drive', 'Beach and Grove', and 'Hotel & Vicinity'. These visual aids supplement the appeal of the region for potential visitors.

By documenting the early stages of the Monterey Peninsula's development, this map and accompanying pamphlet provide a historical record of the region's transition into a renowned Californian retreat.
