Scarce antique engraved bird's-eye view of London from south of the Thames overlooking London Bridge and the City of London. The view was published by Pierre Aveline, one of the foremost viewmakers of the first part of the 18th century.
The view includes a key highlighting seven points of interest: St. Pauls Cathedral, the Tower, Winchester Palace, etc. The theaters and baiting pits of Southwark can be seen in the foreground.
Interestingly, the view shows London before the fire, with St. Pauls in its pre-1666 Fire configuration. The new cathedral was consecrated in 1697, perhaps accounting for the reliance on the old model.
A later state would appear, much worn, with the imprint line changed to: "Fait par Avelin: a Paris chez Crepy rue St. Jacque a St. Pierre"
