If an order is received after that time, we will ship the next day. We ship maps either flat in custom packages or in specially ordered thick tubes. Description

Detailed woodcut architectural plan of the Roman amphitheater in Nimes, one of most famous legacies of Roman rule in France. This building, known as "Les Arenes" or the arena, is extremely well preserved and continues today to serve as a performance center, including hosting two annual bullfights.

The work features the Arenes as seen from the outside. Large insets show various statues apparently found on-site, including statues of a bull, Romulus and Remus, and a gladiator fight. Dimensions for the columns which support the amphitheater are given.

Left margin cut close to image. Very minor fold toning.
