Description

Maps By The Father of Modern Biblical Geography

Attractive set of maps focusing on the Holy Land and surrounding regions, showing the geography of Palestine and the Sinai Peninsula in detail. The maps are based on the work of the noted biblical scholar Edward Robinson, whose works would become the standard authority on biblical knowledge.

The map shows the routes undertaken by Robinson during his Palestinian voyages, with one route marked in red and one marked in blue. The accounts are so detailed that they show Robinson's voyages in the immediate vicinity of Jerusalem, with routes taken to Bethany, Bethlehem, and other areas of biblical importance.

Robinson made two journeys to Palestine (1838 and 1852). His work has been described as a "cornerstone of nineteenth-century Palestine exploration." Earlier descriptions had relied on the accounts of travelers and legends, whereas Robinson and his guide and translator Eli Smith relied on only what they saw for themselves.
