Description

One of the Very First New York Subway Maps.

An attractive little map of Lower Manhattan issued around 1904, showing the budding mass transit system taking shape in that city.

The map is one of many issued to promote a particular hotel, in this case the Broadway Central Hotel, but this example differentiates itself for the vibrance of its color-printing and graphic design.

Tilley Haynes acquired the property in 1892 and renamed it the Broadway Central Hotel.

The Broadway Central Hotel issued another map with virtually the same railway configuration, which can be seen here.

The present map seems to be a reduced version of that map.
