Early 19th Century view of Gdansk, published in London by Robert Bowyer.

The view shows Gdansk, with St Mary's Church (Bazylika Mariacka), the largest brick church in the world, dominating the skyline. At the time Gdansk was still a Free City, prior to its incorporation into West Prussia in 1815.

The view appeared in Robert Bowyer's Triumphs in Europe, in the Campaigns of the Years 1812, 1813, 1814 commemorated by a Series of Twelve Views..., which celebrated (prematurely) the end of the Napoleonic Wars. This work was republished the following year as An Illustrated Record of Important Events in the Annals of Europe', and again with an sister publication 'The Campaign of Waterloo.
