Recreational Map for Northwest Washington

Rare recreational guide map published by W.S. Parks Co. of Seattle.

Finely executed map of Northwest Washington, drawn by Edward R. Smith for W.R. Parks of Seattle.  The map includes an unusual image at the bottom left, incorporating a curious compass staff and a bathing suit clad woman, apparently an image suggestive of the local beaches.

The map was intended for recreational use, highlighting the roads, trails, ferries, lakes, streams and camps in the region.  Elevations of the highest mountains are noted along with mountain passes.  In some instances, distances are shown along main roads.

The Quinault Indian Reservation and Tulalip Indian Reservation are prominently shown, as is Seattle Watershed, Tacoma Watershed, Mount Rainier and Mt. Olympus National Monument.

It is possible that this is the same Edward R. Smith who created the iconic Lake Tahoe map of the 1940s.

Rarity

The map and guide are unrecorded.  We were unable to locate any examples in OCLC or otherwise.
