Description
Detailed German map of western Africa, showing the western portion of the continent from the Ivory Coast to the Western Saharan coast. The map shows the Saharan desert to the north, with numerous watersheds and mountain ranges shown further to the south. The routes taken by certain explorers, such as Mungo Park, are shown.
The map follows previous cartography of the region and names Arrowsmith, Durand, and Molien as some of its sources. The name High Sudan refers to the region south of the Sahara, from western Africa to the modern country of Sudan.
