Description

Attractive map showing the city of Brindisi, in southern Italy, on the Adriatic Sea. The map is oriented to the southwest, with the town shown in the upper part of the map. The Swabian Castle is shown adjoined to the town. Numerous soundings are shown, as are other buildings near the waterfront. The "Great" and "Little Passages" out of the harbor are shown.

Brindisi was the subject of numerous conquests. The city changed hands every several centuries was part of the Ostrogoth, Byzantine, Norman, Venetian, Austrian, and Bourbon Empires at various points in its history. The castle dates to the era of Frederick II, King of Sicily, Germany, and Jerusalem.
