Description
An excellent full color example of the last edition of this map to illustrate the sea of the west, prior to the incorporation of information from Cook's Voyage. Gone is the massive conjectural Alaskan archipelago tentatively theorized from the reports of Behring and Tchirakow. In its place is more conservative although equally inaccurage mapping of the NW Coast to the Arctic Circle. In this last edition, the earlier plate has been changed to delete the words du Roy from the publication privilege. The US is named (pre 1783 Treaty). Numerous Indian names & early french forts shown. An essential map for Bay of the West collections. Wheat 192; Wagner 559. Full color examples are unusual.
