Description

Siege of Sas-van Gent

Map of the siege of Sas-van Gent by the Dutch States Army under Frederick Hendrik, published by Visscher in 1644.

The Siege began on July 28 1644.

The map shows Sas-van-Gent and the surrounding land between Philippine, Axel and Zelzate with the dikes and sconces laid out by the besiegers and their army camps.

Rarity

The broadside with text is very rare. Even the example at the Rijksmuseum is without the text.

We note a heavily damaged example at the Bibliotheque National de France, with a different text setting.
