Description

Nice example of the Pieter Karius' map of Bohemia, with the additional view of Kaiserhof.

The geographical content of the map is based on Ortelius's map of Bohemia, from his Theatrum orbis terrarum of 1570, which in turn is drawn from the map of Johann Criginer (1521-1571). The map is dedicated to Eilhard Lubinus, professor of mathematics at Rostock University.  A costumed couple and a shield with the Imperial coat of arms complete the decoration.

Includes a view of Prague (Praga) at lower left and Kaisers Hof (residence of the Emperor), lower right.

A later edition of the map was published by Cloppenburg.
