Interesting large format map of Eastern Texas, hand colored by counties, from Asher & Adams' Atlas of the United States.

Conceived as a railroad atlas, the map gives a very detailed treatment of the rail lines and stations. Large inset of the region between Brownsville and Corpus Christi. Shows towns, railroad lines, stations, etc. Post offices are also located. One of the most interesting large format commercial maps of Texas from the early 1870s.

Asher Biography

Asher & Adams was a New York publishing firm known for their atlases. Notably, their maps were some of the first to prominently exhibit railroad lines, even if this meant a slight reduction in topographical detail. They specialized especially in state and county maps of the United States.
