Santini's map presents a stunning and meticulous depiction the vast territories of the Ottoman Empire, Persia (modern Iran), the Uzbeks' lands (located in present-day Uzbekistan and its surrounding areas), as well as Arabia (comprising today's Arabian Peninsula) and Egypt. Major cities, rivers and mountains are shown, each rendered with precision and adorned with careful detailing, along with an elegant title cartouche.
Paolo Santini (1729-1793) was an Venetian engraver known especially for his religious prints and fine cartographic engravings. He published in Venice and may have a been a member of the clergy. In his maps, he largely adopted and adapted the work of his French counterparts, especially the brothers de Vaugondy.
