Description

Wonderful vintage pictorial of Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, issued in 1940 by the State of Michigan to entice people to travel and do business there.

The map presents a collection of busy and impressive imagery, much of it in a kind of American Regionalist style, very redolent of the time.

An introductory letter from then-Governor Luren D. Dickinson is printed within the state itself:

On behalf of the people of Michigan, I take this means of extending to you a cordial invitation to share with us those things which nature has so richly endowed these Peninsulas.

Michigan, set in the cluster of the World's four greatest fresh water seas, has for many years been the adopted state of millions second in their hearts only to their own. Put yourself in this picture and we feel you'll have a setting for a perfect summer.

Information about the state of Michigan is printed on the back of the map.
