Description

Classic original vintage travel poster of the famous Australian black swan, composed by Douglas Annand to promote travel to Australia.

The poster was produced in the 1950s and has several variants, with respect to the representation of the organization highlighted below the swan. This example has the emblem of the Australian Tourist Commission.

Black swans have taken on a different meaning in recent years. The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that comes as a surprise, has a major effect, and is often inappropriately rationalized after the fact with the benefit of hindsight. The term is based on an ancient saying that presumed black swans did not exist – a saying that became reinterpreted to teach a different lesson after the first European encounter with them.
