A very nice example of Kem's classic image of Hitler as a spider attacking Europe, one of the all-time great World War II map posters.
The map shows Hitler's spider legs stretching out to North Africa, Scandinavia, the Middle East, U.S.S.R., Western Europe, and the Atlantic. All over British warplanes and warships are shown dealing blows to his advances. The Red Army is given some nominal visual credit on the Eastern Front.
The map was also issued in a French-language edition.
This is certainly one of the most compelling of the war poster maps that we have seen.
Rarity
The map is reasonably well accounted for in the usual institutions (Imperial War Museum, U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, Smithsonian), but it is rare in commerce. We have looked for it for years and this is the first example we have found.
Provenance
Deaccessioned from the Valentine Museum.
