Wall Map of The Pike Pine Retail Core in 1930. - Wallin & Nordstrom's Shoes, Immediately Prior to Its Name Change to Nordstrom's
Detailed wall map of a portion of Seattle, oriented with northeast at the top, illustrating the "Retail Shopping District".
Published less than a year after the October 24, 1929 stock market crash ushered in the beginning of the Great Depression, the map is a monument to Seattle as the end of the Roaring 20s.
The map provides a meticulous list of the commercial, retail, hotel, and other businesses. A number of blocks are identified by the type of customers to whom they catered, for example, Quality Women's Apparel, High Grade Trade, Women's Trade, Men's Trade, Women's Apparel, Furniture, Hotel District, Theater District.
One Second Avenue, Wallin and Nordstrom's Shoes is shown between Pike & Union. In 1928, John W. Nordstrom retired and sold his shares to two of his sons, Everett and Elmer. In 1929, Wallin also retired and sold his shares to them. The 1930 grand opening of the remodeled Second Avenue store marked the change of name to Nordstrom's. Lloyd Nordstrom subsequently joined the company in 1933, and the three brothers ran the business together for almost forty years.
