Description

Rare separate map of Corsica by Ferrando Bertelli in 1562.

The interior of the island is  filled with villages and larger towns, rivers, mountains and cultivated fields.  The map is embellished with images of men on foot or on horseback, game of different kinds as well as, between Corti and Capo Santa Maria, a hunting scene with two "cursini" dogs attacking a wild boar.  Elegant sailboats surround the island.

Ferrando Bertelli''s map of Corsica is the earliest printed map baed upon the anonymous model engraved by Fabio Licinius.

Rarity

The map is very rare.  We were unable to find any other examples at auction or in dealer catalogs.
