Description
Wide margined example of Francois de Belleforest's early woodcut map of France, published in Paris in 1575.
The map is a woodcut version of Abraham Ortelius' map of France, done at a time when French mapmaking was still in its infancy and the preferred medium was woodblock printing, rather than the copperplates then employed in Italy and the Low Countries.
The map appeared in de Belleforest's La Cosmographie Universelle De Toute Le Monde.
Condition Description
Minor dampstaining along top margin. Several minor fold splits, expertly repaired on verso.
