Description

Rare large format map of Indianapolis from 1885, issued by R.L. Polk as part of his nearly-yearly series of city directory maps.

The map covers the Indianapolis metro area and gives the sense of the city as a railroad hub with a burgeoning population in the 1880s.

R.L. Polk issued these city directory maps into the 20th century; we have located examples from 1883, '94, and 1908 (completely different maps compared with the present).
