Great Game Map of Afghanistan
Detailed antique folding map of Afghanistan and environs, published during the First Anglo-African War.
The map maker, William H. Allen & Co., are more associated with their maps of India. Afghanistan factored importantly in Britain's defense of its colonial interests in the Subcontinent, namely from Russia.
The map is composed of a spider's web of mountain roads and rivers, with much of the interior between these unknown.
The map was published as a supplement to James Atkinson's 1842 Expedition into Affghanistan. It was published again in 1844.
