Description

Detailed, small folding map of one of Bermuda's toniest sections, the Mid-Ocean Club, showing the first wave of home-building in the Club, in 1929.

The map was compiled by W.N. Brown for the Bermuda Development Company. While the club itself was founded in 1921 in collaboration with the Furness Bermuda Line, the language of the map suggests that this was the first wave of subdivision and homebuilding on the site.

The map extends to Castle Point in the east and Mangrove Lake in the west. Though the club was substantially reconfigured in the 1950s, the roads and characteristic large plots shown on the map match much of the configuration seen today.

The map is based on work by the Olmstead Brothers, which was published on a map in 1924, which can be seen here.
