Early Road Travel
Rare early road map of the United States, published by the American Automobile Association.
First copyrighted in about 1912, this was among the earliest printed maps to show an auto route across the nation.
This map would seem to be a part of the first generation of AAA maps of the complete United States, which was published up to 1918. Beginning in 1919, the format seems to have changed, with red colored routes added for the principal route and icons given to the names of the major highways, decorating the map.
This early edition of the map is a apparently very rare. OCLC locates only 1 copy (Bancroft Library).
