Scarce early map of the United States, which appeared in Hilliard d'Auberteuil's Essais Historiques et Politiques sur les Anglo-Americains . . . , published in Brussels in 1782.
The map provides a fine early depiction of the United States at the end of the American Revolution. A number of early roads are shown, along with many place names.
A note running through modern-day Ohio and then between Lake Erie and Lake Huron notes the "pays sauvages ci-devant sous la protection du Roi D'Angleterre" (Wild Indian Region under the protection of the King of England). Many Indian tribes are noted west of the Alleghany and Appalachian Mountains.
