Description

Detailed map of India, published by William Allen & Company in London.

The map focuses on the routes through the country between major towns and points of interest. Also notes Military Stations, Post Offices, Post and Bangy Roads.

Includes 3 large distance tables for the Bombay Presidency, Madras Presidency and Bengal & Agra.

The map includes a note at the bottom left corner stating that it was "Engraved by the Omnigraph, F. P. Becker & Co. Patentees."  This was a patented process for printing letters.

Rarity

This is the first state of the map.  All states of the map are apparently quite scarce.

It was apparently reissued in 1844, 1845, 1853, 1857 and 1871, adding railway and telegraph information beginning in 1857.

Condition Description
Segmented and laid on linen, with an original folder. Uniformly toned, most notably at the upper left corners.
