Description

Spectacular View of New York City

Large birds-eye view of the Manhattan from the South with elaborate borders and two further panoramas above and below.

The view is a three-stone color lithograph by Nathaniel Currier and is one of the best early lithographic views of New York City. This might have been an intermediate edition of the print between the 1856 first edition, which was hand-colored, and the 1876 edition, which was more garishly color-printed.

The view was "sketched and drawn" by Charles Parsons (1821-1910). Parsons was a British painter who worked for a considerable time in New York, where he was a member of the National Academy of Design.
