Description

Rare 17th Century English Sea Chart of the Bay of Biscay

Nice example of the second state of John Seller's rare map of the Bay of Biscay, published in London and engraved by James Clerk.

The map first appeared separately and in Seller's Atlas Maritimus, or the Sea Atlas; being a book of maritime charts.

Includes the coat of arms for France and Galicia, with the scales in English and French leagues, Dutch miles and Spanish leagues.

The first state bears only Seller's name.

Rarity

The map is very rare on the market.  The last dealer catalog entry was an example offered by Susan Fisher in 1989.
