Description

Rare vintage pictorial map of Pasadena on linen, probably published in the 1920s.

The view of Pasadena shows the city when it was practically a village; the map labels local churches, a Friends Meeting House, the Temple B'nai-Israel synagogue, and seemingly all of the schools in the area.

Based on the collegiate imagery in the lower-left corner, these cloth maps were probably given to graduates of one of the local colleges (perhaps Cal Tech).

We note the following landmarks:

  • Busch Gardens - built in 1906
  • Mt Wilson Observatory - built 1917
  • Devil's Gate Reservoir - built 1920
  • Rose Bowl - built 1921
  • Calif Tech (Cal Tech) - name changed in 1925
  • John Marshall Jr. High - built 1925

This is map is rare - this being the only example of it that we could locate.
