Disposition of Land From One of The Original 10 Land Grantees From William Penn

Finely executed survey and brief history of a section of land in South Murderkill Hundred, Kent County, Delaware, on the north side of Murtherkill (Motherkill) Creek, just south of Frederica, Delaware, originally granted to Bon

The land is part of the land originally deeded to Benony (or Boneny) Bishop by William Penn in 1681 and designated on survivor's records as St. Collom, just south of the area on the Murderkill River which would become Johny Cake Landing.

The map is signed by Mark M'Call.  M'Call would go on to be appointed by Congress in 1785 as the first US Surveyor for the state of Delaware.

The map shows the area just east of the confluence of Murtherkill Creek and Ash Gut, in Murtherkill Hundred.  At various times, this land appears to have been part of St. Collom, and relates to places which at various times in the 17th and 18th Century were called Bishop's Choice, Johnny Cake Neck, Old Landing and Goforth Landing.

The map provides an interesting local history:

...part of a larger Tract of Land called St. Collom.  Originally surveyed for Benony Bishop [Acquired in 1681? and first surveyed in 1684?, The Indian rights in these lands he bought of Saccarackett, December 30, 1682, and January 5, 1682-83.], which by sundry conveyances since became the property of a certain Christopher Sipple, now dec[ease]d.  who by his deed bearing the Date May 10th Anno Domini 1744, conveyed 100 Acres unto Zachariah Goforth . . . By Virtue of the Honorable the Proprietaries Warrang of Resurvey bearing date June 19th 1776 . . .  The parts of D:E:F are part of the Tract  St. Collom in Possession of the Heirs of Christopher Sipple Jr., of which Part E is claimed by Vinc[en]t Emmerson: Also the part C is claimed by Charles Ridgely and James Boyer in pursuance of a  Survey to them made equal date with said Goforths Resurvey on Warrant to them granted bearing date March 18th Anno Dom. 1776.  Survey to them . . . . The said Zachariah Goforth having Sold the whole of his said Premises unto John Dill, it was Surveyed unto him August 22d 1777 . . . By Mark W. Call Surveyor.

On the verso, the map notes: "Kent County Draught. John Dill 227:108 pe[rches] neat measure".
