Description

This is a vintage aeronautical chart of the Middle East, showing the region around the Strait of Hormuz, including parts of Persia and the Arabian Peninsula. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bandar Abbas, and many more cities are visible in this large scale map.

The map shows many features that could be of importance to pilots. Topography is shown with attractive yellow shading and any high points are noted. "Danger areas" are marked along with relevant altitudes, these are most likely areas used by various militaries. Important routes appear to be noted, as are the areas in various control tower zones. Further information, conversion charts, and a wider map of the area are all shown.

The map shows the regions which would shortly become Oman and the United Arab Emirates, as well as parts of Iran. As of 1962, these were under a British protectorate, however in 1968 Britain decided to end their treaties with the region. This was despite requests not to do so with the Emirates even offering to pay for British costs of defending the area. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia would shortly invade various bits of land, though the Emirates would be able to establish itself militarily soon after.
