Fine large map of Ceylon, published under the direction of A.H.G. Dawson, Surveyor General of Ceylon.

The map includes 21 inset city plans, including: Kandy, Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Matara, Ratnapura, Chilaw, Negombo, Kurunegala, Badulla, Nawalapitiya, Galle; with the largest at the upper right, of Colombo.

Includes a number of tables at the left side, including:

  • Petrol Depots
  • Rest Houses
  • Police Stations
  • Telegraph Offices
  • Hospitals & Dispensaries
  • Circuit Bungalows
  • Flood Sign Notice Boards
  • Railway Stations that Accept the Booking of Motor Cars
  • Temperature and Rainfall tables for Ceylon's Major Cities

A.H.G. Dawson was the 16th Surveyor of General of Ceylon, serving from 1927 to 1932.

This map was updated periodically from the 1920s to at least the 1950s. 

Rarity

The map is relatively scarce.  We were unable to locate another example of this edition of the map.
