Description

Rare map and book of mining activity in San Bernardino County, issued by the California State Mining Bureau for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904.

The work was issued under the authority of the of the State Mineralogist Lewis E Aubury.

The book contains an additional black and white map "The Mountains of the Mojave Desert", which delineates the various mini-ranges of San Bernardino County. It also includes "Map of Desert Fissure Springs, San Bernardino Co." in which dozens of springs are located and the direction of fault lines shown.

On the main map the mines are called out in red and number into the hundreds.

OCLC locates three copies in California: UC Berkley, UCLA, and California State Library.

In 2015 we had a similar map for Kern County.

Condition Description
Oblong quarto. Publisher's gilt-lettered full red leather. (Backstrip and edges worn, sometimes heavily.) Good to Very Good.
