Description

Rare map of Poland engraved by Daniel de la Feuille, with 5 coats of arms and 7 more blank escutcheons. The map shows the region of Poland and Lithuania between the region of Pomerania and Latvia. Inland, the map stretches all the way to the mouth of the Danube River in the Black Sea. Cities are named including Kiev, Buda(pest), Dantzig (Gdansk), and Riga.

This eighth and final state of the map, reengraved by Francesco Sesone's for Pierre le Lorrain de Vallemont's Gli elementi della storia. . .

States

The map was originally engraved in 1690 by Daniel de la Feuille and went through a total of eight states. The final two states, published in Naples by Pierre le Lorrain de Vallemoint, are identifiable as follows:

  1. 1764 state, financed by Benedetto Cessari. Page number 221b above top left neatline and signature of engraver below the bottom left neatline.
  2. 1770 state, financed by Antonio Cervone. Page number 343 above the top neatline and lacks the signature of the engraver.
