An attractive pictorial map of Mexico produced by Mexicana de Aviacion, the two-time flag carrier for the country. Attractive images scatter throughout the map, and the many domestic and international routes of the airline are shown. An Olmec-style head acts as a compass rose and attractive bordering surrounds parts of the map. A Mexicana plane flies through the top of the image.
The images are drawn in light tones, giving the image a relaxing and soothing feeling. Many species of fish jump through the ocean and the regions of Mexico are all given their due with images of jaguars, dancers, winemaking, bears, cacti, and more. Some images are shown from neighboring countries, with a film star shown in Hollywood.
Compania Mexicana de Aviacion was the longest-running North American airline to operate continuously under the same name. It commenced operations in 1921 and went bankrupt in 2010. Mexicana was acquired by Pan Am in 1929 then nationalized by the Mexican government in 1959, it is this period that is pictured in this map. The Mexico City to Los Angeles overnight route was instituted in the 1940s, while the Mexico City to Puerto Vallarta route would not start until the 1950s, giving some constraints on dating.
